Ways to give
Give online in about a minute, or through a donor-advised fund, stock, an IRA, your employer or your will. Here is what each one involves.
Give online
The quickest way to give. It takes about a minute.
Give once, or set up a gift that repeats every month, every three months or once a year. Any amount from $1 works. Pay by card, bank account or digital wallet, and stay anonymous if you prefer. Bank transfers take a few business days to clear.
Donor-advised funds
If you give through a donor-advised fund, recommend a grant to Cooperative Computing Alliance using our EIN, 88-4214948. If you have any trouble finding us in your fund’s system, email us and we will help.
You took your tax deduction when you put money into the fund, so your fund’s sponsor provides the tax receipt, not CCA. We will still thank you. Grants often arrive without the donor’s contact details, so an email telling us a grant is on its way is the surest way to hear from us.
Donor-advised fund grants can be restricted to a program like any other gift. Note the restriction in your grant recommendation, or tell us by email.
Stock and securities
Giving shares that have gone up in value can be more tax-efficient than selling them and giving the cash. If you have held the shares for more than a year, you can generally deduct their fair market value, and you do not pay capital gains tax on the increase. Limits apply depending on your income, so check with your advisor.
Email info@coopalliance.org before you make the transfer. We will send transfer instructions and watch for the gift, which can otherwise arrive without your name attached. Our acknowledgment describes the shares you gave; valuing them for your return is up to you and your advisor.
From an IRA
If you are 70½ or older, you can give directly from a traditional IRA through a qualified charitable distribution. The gift goes straight from your IRA to CCA, it is not counted as taxable income, and it can count toward your required minimum distribution for the year. In 2026 each person can give up to $111,000 this way.
The money has to go directly from your IRA administrator to the charity, so ask your administrator to send it to Cooperative Computing Alliance, EIN 88-4214948. Donor-advised funds cannot receive these distributions, but CCA can, because the IRS lists us as a public charity. Email us when you have asked for the distribution, so we can watch for it and acknowledge it.
Checks and wire transfers
Email info@coopalliance.org and we will send the payee name and mailing address for a check, or the details for a wire transfer. For a wire, it helps to tell us the amount and roughly when to expect it.
Employer matching and workplace giving
Many employers match the gifts their staff make to charities, sometimes dollar for dollar. Check with your human resources team or your company’s giving program. You will usually need our name and EIN, 88-4214948.
If your company would like to do more, such as sponsoring a program or contributing mentor time, read about corporate sponsorship.
Gifts in your will
You can leave a gift to CCA in your will or trust, or name us as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy. Legal documents need our exact legal name and EIN, so please email us before you finalize the wording and we will give you both.
You do not have to tell us about a gift in your will. If you do, we can make sure it is used the way you intend.
Equipment
Enterprise switches, routers, firewalls, servers, laptops and rack equipment can go straight into our lending library. Tell us what you have before you send anything, and we will confirm whether we can use it.
Your time
If you work in networking, cloud or security, a few hours a month of mentoring helps participants get unstuck and understand how the work is done in practice. Email info@coopalliance.org with what you do and how much time you can give.
Questions about giving
Which way of giving is best for me?
It depends on your finances, and we are not tax advisors. Giving online is simplest. Stock and IRA gifts can have tax advantages for some donors. Your accountant or financial advisor can tell you what makes sense for you.
What receipt will I get?
The donation form emails you a receipt unless you choose not to receive one. To deduct any single gift of $250 or more, you need a written acknowledgment from the charity. Email us if you need one and we will send it. For a donor-advised fund grant, your fund’s sponsor provides the tax receipt. For stock or equipment, we describe what you gave but do not put a value on it.
Can I restrict any of these gifts to one program?
Yes. Tell us which program when you give, and we will put the restriction in writing and report on how the money was spent.
Not sure where to start?
Email us with what you have in mind, whether that is a check, shares, an IRA distribution or a rack of old switches, and we will tell you exactly how to do it.
